Mr. Royal was born on January 28, 1948 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Franklin Green Royal and the late Frances Shirley Royal. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and 2 overseas bars medal as a Marksman M-14. Mr. Royal was employed for Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked for 37 years until his retirement. He was a member of Kings Chapel Baptist Church and the VFW Post 6447. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Pat Mathews and grandson Kyle Spraggins.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Patricia Royal of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Amanda (Johnny) Greene of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Jason Shumate of Thomaston Ga, brother Mr. Jimmy Royal of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Anna (Keline) Jones, Autumn (Dylan) Perkins,Lexi Greene, Damion Shumate, 4 great grandchildren, special friend and caretaker Pam Homman, beloved dog Max.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Sunday April 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Upson County Humane Society.
