Betty Jo “B.J.” Penland

Betty Jo “B.J.” Penland, age 64, of Kennesaw, passed away April 7, 2023.

B.J. was born on April 30, 1958, to the late Edward and Betty Penland. She grew up in Gwinnett County alongside her siblings. She was a talented graphic designer. She created graphic art for many years at Maltese Signs in Norcross. She was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserves. 

 

B.J. had a passion for life. She was always up for doing anything new and fun. She was outgoing and never met a stranger. She was a talented artist and had a passion for pencil sketching. B.J. enjoyed gardening vegetables including tomatoes and cucumbers. She was known to give away what she couldn’t eat. B.J. loved the outdoors and watching sunrises and sunsets. She enjoyed bird watching and being in nature. She had a heart for animals, particularly cats, horses, and hummingbirds. B.J. had a sense of community and was known to help neighbors whenever she could. She would assist those who needed help grocery shopping, getting to doctor appointments and work, and any other need they had. She loved her family and always wanted to help people as best as she could. B.J. will be remembered as a loving person who mentored others who had lost their way. 

 

B.J. is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed and Debbie Penland of Griffin, Randy and Norma Penland of Suwanee, Stephen and Graciela Hegedus of Davie, FL; sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Bob Harris of Athens, AL; many nieces and nephews.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 14550 US 19, Griffin, GA. 30224.
