Dorothy “Dot” Gloria Brannon

Ms. Dorothy “Dot” Gloria Brannon, age 81, of Meansville, passed away October 1, 2023.  She was born in Experiment, GA, daughter of the late Willie Hue Brannon and Helen Dorothy Waters Brannon. She lived in Meansville for most of her life. Dot was affectionately known as “Tootsie” to her classmates at Meansville Elementary School. She was a 1960 graduate of Pike County High School where she was voted Most Athletic.

After graduation, Dot attended Columbia Bible College and then graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC.  She was a teacher at Calvary Baptist School in Hampton, GA, before surrendering to be a missionary. Dot spent over 10 years in Brazil sharing the gospel with Baptist Mid Missions.  After returning from the mission field in 1993 to be close to her aging mother, Dot attended nursing school at Gordon College with her niece Cindy. They graduated from Gordon College School of Nursing in 1996 and Dot found her calling as a hospice nurse at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, GA. In 2006, Dot moved back home to the Brannon homeplace to care for her mother, Helen, as her health declined. The family was so thankful for Dot caring for their mom and grandmother with the absolute best care and allowing her to stay in her home. Dot would return to Southwest Christian Hospice for a few more years before retirement. She truly enjoyed ministering to patients and their families.

Dot enjoyed reading, studying her Bible, taking pictures, eating lunch at Peachtree Café with friends and cheering on her Georgia Bulldogs. Dot enjoyed many activities, but she truly adored spending time with her family and friends. Dot was always the one with the camera in her hand documenting every aspect of the get-together or event. She loved any friendly function where she could eat and talk. There was no doubt that Dot knew Heaven was her home and her heart’s desire was for all to know Him as their Savior like she did.  She was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Tabernacle in Thomaston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-Law, Clinton Davis, and her nephew, Billy Brannon.

She is survived by her sisters Shirley (Bob) Weems of McDonough, Pat Davis of Griffin, Mary Alice (Ted) Garris of Griffin; her brothers Al Brannon of Meansville and Eddie (Rhonda) Brannon of Meansville; nieces DeAnna, Julie, Tamara, Brooke, Cindy, Ginger and Valerie; nephews Jeff, Cliff, Clint, Carl and Brandon; extended family and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank the Brightmoor Hospice Team for all of their care and support of Dot and her family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Berry and Pastor Josh Shannon officiating.  Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomaston.
