Mr. Jerry Carl Worshum, age 87, of Concord, passed away February 13, 2023.
Jerry was born on August 22, 1935, to the late Luther and Faye Worshum. He grew up in Montezuma, Tennessee. As a young man, Jerry joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany as a sergeant in the motor pool. Upon completion of his military service, Jerry married the lovely Rilla Reynolds. The couple eventually settled in Atlanta and had two sons and two daughters. In 1960, Jerry began his longtime career with A&P grocery stores. He became Vice President of Warehousing and Distribution. After 40 years with the company, Jerry retired as the warehouse officially closed its doors in 2000. Jerry spent the last 20 years of his life in Concord where he lived close to family.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and an excellent gardener. He enjoyed growing vegetables and hunting. He was a talented guitarist. He loved singing and playing old country songs on his guitar. Jerry and his wife attended Harps Crossing Baptist Church in Hollonville for many years. He was compassionate and giving. He was a “bigger than life” character with a loving heart. Jerry was incredibly knowledgeable. He knew about most any subject and he could build or fix just about anything. Jerry will be remembered as an amazing father, Pops, and the rock of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rilla Reynolds Worshum, his son, Timothy C. Worshum and his daughter, Angi Peaden.
He is survived by his son: Bill Worshum of Concord; daughter: Kristi Worshum of Griffin; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 16th in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
