Kathryne Fiske Hopkins

Mrs. Kathryne Fiske Hopkins, 94, beloved wife of the late Calvin Sylvester Hopkins Jr., entered into rest Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born as the last of three children to Julian Francis Fiske Sr. and Kate Edwards Fiske on August 2, 1928, in Augusta, Georgia. Being raised in Augusta, she attended Monte Sano School, Tubman High School, Augusta Junior College for two years and afterwards studied at the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi Sorority. She was a life long member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees, was President and Secretary of the Women’s Group, and taught Sunday School. She was a former member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. During her time at UGA, she met her future husband and the two were married on June 16, 1948 at Woodlawn. After living briefly in Orlando, Florida, they returned to make Augusta their home. Between 1949 and 1965 they produced six children and welcomed each one in the progression of boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, girl! Kathryne immersed herself in her family providing a warm and loving home to raise her children in and had all dressed and prepared for church every Sunday.

After years as a homemaker, Kitty (as she was affectionately known) found great joy in serving as Assistant Hostess for 8 years at First Baptist Church in Augusta and likewise working for Vera Stewart and the Very Vera Company for 15 years. Over those years as the business grew and grew, and cake sales increased, Kitty’s artistic way of icing the many styles of cakes became such a trademark for the company, Vera herself touted those creations in her television markets as handmade with the “Kitty Swirl”! Forever humble and never seeking attention for herself, Kitty provided a strong example of strength, perseverance and faith in her daily life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grand children are a testament to that fact and will cherish forever the loving heart and life lessons she provided each and everyone.

Her children and their spouses are Calvin Sylvester Hopkins III (Hoppy and DeAnn), Mary Kathryne Boatman (Kathy and Bill), Stephen Dale Hopkins (Steve and Loi), Dianne Fiske Reynolds (Dianne and Jimmy), Mark Lollis Hopkins (Mark and Mary), Helen Amy Mosley (Helen and Teddy). Her grandchildren and their spouses are Hunter Hopkins (Anne), Fiske Hopkins (Katie), Cam Hopkins (Kat), Clay Boatman (Connie), Adam Boatman (Ansley), Katy Boatman, Beau Hopkins (Brittany), Skip Hopkins, Madeline Skipper (Hunter), Lee Reynolds (Ashley), Cal Reynolds (fiancé Lauren Hardaway), Ben Reynolds (Liz), Wes Hopkins, Lauren Hopkins, Wade Hopkins (Jessye), Frank Fleming, Jackson Fleming (fiancé Sara Penn Hamlin), Hannah Hopkins, McTier Mosley (Halie), Maggie Brogan (Jake), Matthew Mosley.
