Alice Ione Van Voorhis Morgan

Alice Ione Van Voorhis Morgan was born January 21, 1930, to Clark and Rosa Edith (Hahn) Van Voorhis on the family farm in Fresno, Ohio. She was next to the youngest of 9 siblings, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She spoke fondly of growing up on the farm. Alice wasn’t afraid of hard work and was a good student.  She graduated from Newcomerstown High School in Newcomerstown, OH in 1948. She was a member of the National Honor Society, active in sports and scholastics. Alice’s mother always wanted one of her daughters to become a nurse, so Alice attended the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, OH and graduated with honors in 1951. She then worked at Grant Hospital and was one of the youngest Head Nurses ever to work at Grant. Alice married Charles W. Morgan on November 14, 1953. They had 4 children. They moved to Hialeah, FL in 1956, where Alice continued her nursing career at Hialeah Hospital. While living in Hialeah, they attended Meadowlane Baptist Church where the entire family was saved. In 1967, they moved to Miramar, FL where Alice worked for Golden Isles Hospital as Head Nurse in the O. R. She was offered the job of Infection Control Nurse at Biscayne Medical Center and enjoyed that position the most because she loved chemistry and microbiology. The Lord blessed Alice with a long life that allowed her to see her great-granddaughter, Ashlee, become a microbiologist. She was very proud of Ashlee and said she wouldn’t be surprised if Ashlee gets a doctorate.  They moved to Griffin, GA in 1977 and Alice took the GA state boards and continued working as an R. N. for several years, then retired.

She had 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way. She enjoyed spending time with family, church life, traveling in their motor home, family reunions, dogs and her 2 cats. She also liked watching wildlife at her home. Alice was a long-time member of Bible Baptist Church in Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings, one son, Mark of Roosevelt, MN, 1 daughter, Rose Fitzgerald (Fitz) of Griffin.

She is survived by her son Mike (Lori) of Roosevelt, MN, her daughter Rebecca Sangster (Leon) of Griffin and her grandkids, great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews.
