Riley was one of 11 children born to the late John Stephen Shackelford and the late Lois Ethel Pitts Shackelford. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Borden Chemical in Griffin for 28 years before retiring. Riley enjoyed hunting, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, growing and selling his tomatoes. He loved the conversation from those stopping to buy them. He was a long-time member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. One of his greatest joys in life was helping others
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Darcy.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Allen and Christie Shackelford of Macon; grandchildren: Roxy, Tiffany, Sierra and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Al Shackelford officiating.
Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Zebulon.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday, October 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
