James William "J. W" Brown, Jr

Mr. James William "J. W" Brown, Jr., age 85, of Thomaston died Thursday evening, October 20, 2022, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held Monday, October 24, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Dr. Ryan Christopher officiating. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the service hour at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Burial will be held Tuesday, October 25, at 2:00 PM CST in the Antioch Community Church Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.

Mr. Brown was born August 6, 1937, in Converse, LA, to the late James William Brown, Sr. and Linder Ophelia Williams Brown. He was employed as a pipe fitter and was a member of Local 198 in Baton Rouge, LA. Mr. Brown had served in the Army National Guard as a bar machine gunner. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and the outdoors, and he loved his family and friends. Mr. Brown was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Nan Weaver Brown and a sister, Louise Selpulvedeo. He is survived by a daughter, Susan "Sue" (Dr. Michael) Mangum of Thomaston, GA; a son, Michael Ray (Dawn) Brown of Baton Rouge, LA; and four grandchildren: Mary Kate Mangum, Daniel Mangum, Brennan Brown, and Cole Brown.
