Mrs. Shirley Ann Edwards Mooney, age 79, of Thomaston, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at her residence.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, at 11:30 AM, at Upson Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jason Weeks officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mooney was born March 6, 1943, in Laurens County, a daughter of the late J.C. Edwards and the late Myrtice Cook Edwards. She was a graduate of Laurens County High School and was a homemaker. She was a devoted member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she was active with WMU. She was instrumental with preparing food for church events and funerals. As a dedicated supporter of Operation Christmas Child, she had already begun preparation for her annual shoebox gifts. She enjoyed making crafts and loved her family dearly.
Mrs. Mooney is survived by her children, Wanda (Lee) Fountain, Wendy (Gary) Royal, and Wayne (Faith) Mooney, all of Thomaston; her mother, Mary Edwards of Dublin; her brother, Mike (Elaine) Edwards; her seven grandchildren, Shane (Crystal) Fountain, LeAnn (Blake) Odom, Eric (Brianna) Mooney, Bree (Thomas) Long, Karen (Brian) Gresham, Kacie Ellington, and Maci (JR) East, and her twelve great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Mooney and her brother, Jack Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Thomaston Gideons, or Fellowship Baptist Church’s Hope Virtual Academy.
Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements.
