He was preceded in death by his dad, Owen J. Adams, Jr. and also by all grandparents: Owen J. and Frances Adams, Pauline Selph, Dot Singley and a very special grandfather James K. "Bud Knight" Haywood, who called him "Wildman" and gave him so many great childhood memories.
Owen is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Josie and Neil Rooks who had been faithfully by his side taking care of him during his illness for several years. He also leaves behind a son and daughter In law, Calvin and Holly Adams, a bother, David Rooks aka "Home Team" a sister and "brother", Tammie "Sis" and Mike "Shack" Shackelford, a niece, Katie Jo Daniel and a half-brother, Shannon Ethridge (Faith, Katelyn, Jess, Caleb), as well as wonderful cousins (Kim, Ginger, Judy, Lisa, Michelle, Keith, Shane, Allen and Mark) that were a huge part of his childhood. An" Uncle Sonny "Haywood (Debbie) and "Uncle Gary" (Stacey).
Owen was a devout Alabama Fan and as we know of only missed watching one game and that was due to his illness. He had a huge heart and loved animals. He was a big "teddy bear" but if you messed with his family or friends that teddy bear became an angry bear. He also loved "pumping iron", which he and his brother David did almost daily together at the Civic Center for years before he became too ill. Although his illness had limited his activities for years, Owen lived his life to the fullest and made some wonderful memories and will be missed greatly.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" for Owen in the future. Please watch for this on his sister's and mother's facebook pages. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Barnesville Animal Shelter (because of his love for animals).
And......."ROLL TIDE!"
