Mr. Watkins was born on August 18, 1946, in Bacon County, Georgia, to the late William David Watkins, and the late Ollie Carver Watkins. He worked for Serve Pro in Fayette County and South Fulton County and was a member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a member of Morning Star Masonic Lodge #27 of Thomaston. Mr. Sonny was an avid motorcyclist for over 50 years and was a long-time member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He and his wife rode their motorcycle to 48 states and Canada. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Lynn Watkins, son-in-law, Richard Buchanan, brothers, Parnell Watkins, Bill Watkins, and sister, Sylvia Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Sewell Watkins of Milner, daughter, Denise Buchanan of Newnan, sons, Ken (Amy) Watkins of Fayetteville, Scott (Cindy) Watkins of Thomaston, brother-in-law, Mark (Billie) Sewell of Lavonia, sister, Euleta Phipps of Lindale, sisters-in-law, Anita Watkins of Thomaston, Christi (Jo'Son) Bell of Avon, North Carolina, grandchildren, Drew, Oliver, Garrett, Haley ( Mickai), Christopher, Morgan, great-grandchild- Waylon, several nieces and nephews, and special companion, Liam.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. from Clarks Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Clarks Chapel Baptist Church.
