Phillip Roy Corley of Thomaston, GA departed from his residence to his Heavenly home on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 75.
Phillip was born in Upson County to the late Wilburn Leon and Cora Lee Corley, March 15, 1947, along with his twin sister, Phyllis Joy.
Phillip is preceded in his death by his parents and one brother, Donald Leon Corley.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy Hobbs Corley; one daughter Beth Lynn Lee; and two grandsons Tanner Lee and Trevor Lee; and one brother Terry (Keri) Corley; and four sisters, Faith Mercer, Carol Smith, Phyllis Waldrop, and Johnnie Casey; brother in law Herman Hobbs; sisters in law Bonnie Kate Corley, Margie Hobbs Boyt, and Theresa Hobbs Waddell.
After graduating Yatesville High School Phillip served his country honorably in the US Army in Thailand and Germany. Following his service years, he returned to work at BF Goodrich, Martha Mills. In July of 1977 he married Joy Hobbs and they moved to Miami, FL to work for Imperial Fire Hose Co. While living in Miami he spent most of his weekends on his boat deep sea fishing in Key Largo and Long Key.
Another move with Imperial Fire Hose Co. In summer of 1986 took them to Charoltte, NC. IN 1989 Phillip became the proud owner of P&D Auto Electric in Chester, SC. Home was in York, SC where Beth Lynn Corley was raised until their 2004 return to Thomaston.
Phillip loved The Lord, his family, hunting, fishing and bowling. After retirement Phillip loved spending time with his grandsons. Many memories were made teaching them fishing and hunting skills. The best memories were their fishing trips to Louisiana and many day break mornings of fishing at the Flint River. Phillip also enjoyed planting and caring for fruit trees. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He was a member of the Tuesday Morning Senior League at Fun Bowl, McDonough. Over the years he enjoyed collecting and restoring old muscle cars.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Calvary’s Lighthouse, 2635 US 19, Thomaston, Ga at 3 pm. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the service hour at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Calvary’s Lighthouse, Building Fund, P.O Box 592, Thomaston Ga 30286.
