Mr. Gary Lewis Potter, age 80, of Milner, passed away January 20, 2024. He grew up in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, son of the late William and Marie Potter. After graduating from Powell Valley High School in 1962, Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force and graduated from the University of Virginia, where he obtained a specialist degree in Mathematics Education. He taught Math for over 20 years. Many of those years were spent at Camden County High School, where he also fueled his passion for coaching football. He enjoyed spending his time reading, building, biking, watching movies, and visiting the mountains.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years: Sandra Ward Potter; son: Garth (Dawn) Potter; grandchildren: Chandler, Aiden, Alexander, Liam, Grayson, and Quinn Potter; brother William Potter III (Patricia); and nephews Greg, Neil, and Michael Potter.
It was Gary’s wish to be cremated and no formal services are planned.
