Michael Wayne Carter

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Michael Wayne Carter, aged 51, of Griffin, who departed from this world on December 11, 2023. Michael was born at Ft. Jackson, SC, during his father's service in the US Army as a drill instructor. His early years were marked by a nomadic lifestyle, as he moved to various military bases and attended schools around the globe.

After graduating from high school, Michael dedicated 21 years to the US Army, where he completed multiple deployments and assignments to include tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His distinguished military career was adorned with accolades such as the Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, a Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and numerous other commendations. Following an honorable discharge, he continued his service in the Army National Guard for several years.

Michael's passions extended beyond his military service; he found joy in music, reading, and cherished moments with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ray R. Carter.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife, April Brock Carter, and their children: Michael Carter II (Hollie), Lauren VanBrackle, Garrett Brock, Kaitlyn Brock, Olivia Carter, Sherri Brock, Morgan Brock, and Nora Brock. His legacy also includes a beloved granddaughter, Grayson Byrd Carter. He is further survived by his mother, Ruth Carter, and siblings, Ray Carter II and Jennifer Pritchard, along with several nieces and nephews.

Special friendships enriched Michael's life, including those with Michael Madsen, Barry and Cindy Smallwood, the brave men and women of the 10th Mountain Division, and the fellow Soldiers of the 148th Brigade Support Battalion.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends are invited to pay their respects and support the family during the visitation hours on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
