After graduating from high school, Michael dedicated 21
years to the US Army, where he completed multiple deployments and assignments
to include tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His distinguished military career was
adorned with accolades such as the Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal,
a Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and numerous other commendations. Following an
honorable discharge, he continued his service in the Army National Guard for
several years.
Michael's passions extended beyond his military service; he
found joy in music, reading, and cherished moments with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ray R. Carter.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife, April Brock Carter,
and their children: Michael Carter II (Hollie), Lauren VanBrackle, Garrett
Brock, Kaitlyn Brock, Olivia Carter, Sherri Brock, Morgan Brock, and Nora
Brock. His legacy also includes a beloved granddaughter, Grayson Byrd Carter.
He is further survived by his mother, Ruth Carter, and siblings, Ray Carter II
and Jennifer Pritchard, along with several nieces and nephews.
Special friendships enriched Michael's life, including those
with Michael Madsen, Barry and Cindy Smallwood, the brave men and women of the
10th Mountain Division, and the fellow Soldiers of the 148th Brigade Support
Battalion.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday,
December 16, 2023, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.
Friends are invited to pay their respects and support the family during the
visitation hours on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a source
of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
