Meredith Bree Kellett Lowry

Mrs. Meredith Bree Kellett Lowry, age 45, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, November 28, 2023.  Funeral services for Mrs. Lowry will be held on Tuesday, December 5, at  11:00 AM, at St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church.  Father Thomas Zahuta will officiate, and interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Monday, December 4, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

 

Mrs. Lowry was born on January 5, 1978, in Griffin, GA, to Duane and Pam Shumate Kellett.  She was a graduate of Upson-Lee High School,  Mrs. Lowry graduated cum laude from Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law, where she also earned a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. While in law school, Mrs. Lowry was recognized for her knowledge and performance in Legal Writing, Family Law, Gender Studies, and Pre-Trial Advocacy. Mrs. Lowry was also the recipient of a scholarship award from the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.

 

Mrs. Lowry was admitted to practice in the Superior Courts through the State of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Mrs. Lowry also served as the Guardian Ad Litem/Child Attorney in Upson County Juvenile Court. Mrs. Lowry was a member of Georgia Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) and was awarded a scholarship sponsored by GAWL while in law school. Mrs. Lowry was also a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. Mrs. Lowry also practiced criminal defense, medical malpractice, and general civil law. Mrs. Lowry held both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in English in addition to her Juris Doctor. For eight years, Mrs. Lowry taught high school and college-level English courses. After becoming an attorney, Mrs. Lowry also taught paralegal classes at a local college, particularly classes in family law, contract law, real property law, and business organizations. She was self-employed with Lowry Law Firm, and she had previously been employed with the law firms of Alan Connell and Johnnie Caldwell, Jr.  Mrs. Lowry was a member of St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church.

 

Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Karen Harris and a son, Dayne Lowry.  She is survived by her husband, Wayne Lowry of Thomaston; two children, Emme Lowry and Jackson Lowry, both of Thomaston; her parents, Duane and Pam Kellett of Thomaston; and a brother, Ryan (Ashley) Kellett, of Thomaston.
