MR.JOHNNY FRANKLIN PARRISH

Mr. Johnny Franklin Parrish age 77 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday July 29, 2016 at Harborview Nursing Center.

Mr. Parrish was born on April 18, 1939 in Barnesville Ga, to the late Frank and Erma Howard Parrish. He was formerly employed with The William Carter Company where he worked as a truck driver for 30 years. Mr. Parrish Served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam stationed on the USS Hornet. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Anne Parrish of Thomaston Ga, sons Mr. Andy (Kathy) Parrish of Butler Ga, Mr. David (Leisa) Parrish of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Daniel (Marnie) Parrish of Thomaston Ga, sisters Mrs. Sally Cochran of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Eva Pollard of Tn, Mrs. Cynthia Albritton of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Judy (Chuck) Pyron of Tn, Mrs. Sue Forrester of Tn, grandchildren Justin Parrish, Kayla Parrish, Lance Parrish, Austin Parrish, Katie Parrish, Trent Parrish, great grandson Jaxson Parrish.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday July 31, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Saturday July 30, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the local Alzheimers Association at 886 Mulberry St. Macon Ga. 31201.

MR. JONATHAN GRIGGERS

Mr. Jonathan Griggers, age 66, of Smyrna, GA, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at his residence. Mr. Griggers, a son of the late A. B. Griggers and Mary Hancock Griggers, was a 1967 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. No services are planned locally, but a memorial service will be held in Florida by his family at a later date.

MS. DIANA LINDA TEAGUE

Ms. Diana Linda Teague, age 59, of Yatesville, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at Heritage Inn Nursing Care Center in Barnesville.

Ms. Teague was born October 7, 1956, in Chicago IL, to the late Joseph Turner and Irma Theresa Teague. She was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Griffin. 

She is survived by her sister, Susan (Alan) Mars of Yatesville; brothers, Wendell (Lynda) Teague of Yatesville, and Ronald (Glenda) Teauge of Yatesville.

MRS. SHELBY LAVERNE MCCARD

Mrs. Shelby Laverne "Bunny" McCard, 78, of Thomaston, died Monday, July 25th, 2016 at her home.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. McCard will be held on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 at 11:00 AM in South View Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Barber officiating.
Mrs. McCard was born in Thomaston on August 28th, 1937, a daughter of the late Perry Joe and Willie Grace Teal Ferguson. She was a hair dresser for 40 years and prior to her retirement she was the owner and operator of Bunny's Beauty Shop. She loved to travel and was able to visit all 50 of the United States.
Mrs. McCard was a member of the First Baptist Church where she attended the True Believer's Sunday School Class.
Mrs. McCard is survived by her husband, Lester McCard; two daughters, Vicki Yates (Mike) King of Lizella and Valeri Yates (Joey) Theil of Thomaston; a step-daughter, Sharmon (Chad) Johnson of Thomaston; a step-son, Lester (Janet) McCard, Jr., of Monroe; a sister, Carolyn (James) Warren of Panama City, FL; a brother, Steve (Glenda) Ferguson of Thomaston; a granddaughter, Katie Huckaby of Thomaston; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Yates,

CPL.JAMES EDWARD MCABEE

Cpl, James Edward McAbee, U.S. Army, Company B, 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Regimental Combat Team, was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near Hadong, South Korea, on July 27, 1950. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 2:00 PM, in South View Cemetery with full military honors. Dr. Glenn Gilstrap will officiate.
Cpl. McAbee, a native of Thomaston, was a 1946 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute, where he excelled in academics and athletics. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo P. McAbee who resided in Thomaston at the time of notification of their son's MIA status. His brother, 2nd Lt. Charles W. McAbee, U.S. Air Force, was killed in September 2, 1950, at the age of 24, after his F-84 fighter crashed in Germany. The McAbees received two "regrets" notification telegrams from the military within a 24-hour time period.
Cpl. McAbee is memorialized at the Honolulu Memorial and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Survivors include nieces and nephews: William H. (Bill) McAbee II of Savannah, GA ; Mike McAbee of Sandersville, GA; Lady McAbee Yonker and Peck McAbee, both of Atlanta, GA. Several cousins also survive.

MRS. BETTY JANE TEAL

Mrs. Betty Jane Teal age 77 of Woodland Ga, died Saturday July 16, 2016 at Brightmoor Hospice. 

Mrs. Teal was born on September 20, 1938 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Ernest and Mamie Jane Landers. She was formerly employed with Wal-Mart where she worked as a jewelry clerk.

Survivors include her husband Mr. Dewey R. Teal of Woodland Ga, sons Mr. Randy (Julie) Teal of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Kenny (Barbara) Teal of Macon Ga, sister Mrs. Helen Caraway of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Donald Ray (Tasha) Henley, Steven Teal, great grandchildren Hunter Henley, Fisher Henley, Nevaiah Teal.

Graveside services will be held on Monday July 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Monday July 18, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

MR. GROVER CLEVELAND WORSHAM JR.

Mr. Grover Cleveland Worsham Jr. age 86 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday July 14, 2016 at his residence. 

Mr. Worsham was born on April 21, 1930 in Culloden Ga, to the late Grover C. Worsham Sr. and Stella Douglas Worsham. He attended public schools in Forsyth, Ga, and graduated from Mary Persons Highschool in 1947. Mr. Worsham attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton Ga, for two years. During this time he joined the Georgia Army National Guard and served 25 years and one month. He retired with the rank of Captain having served as a Company Commander and then transferred to the Brigade Staff in Macon. Mr. Worsham joined the Culloden Methodist Church. He was involved in activities of the church and served in several capacities as an adult. After moving to Thomaston, he and his wife joined the First United Methodist where he served this church in many ways. On December 19, 1954 he married June Deavours in the Leslie Baptist Church in Leslie Ga, a marriage that has lasted for 61 & 1/2 years. They lived for 2 years in Culloden, and later moved to Thomaston in 1956. He was employed with Farm Credit now Ag South for 34 years serving in Thomaston, Griffin and Forsyth. He retired in 1986. He and his father planted pine trees on their farm which was in Monroe and Lamar Counties. On June 5, 1983 Mr. Grover was presented the Tree Farmer of The Year Award by the Georgia Forestry Association.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. June Deavours Worsham of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Wanda (Frank) Renfroe of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Wayne (Becky) Worsham of Donalsonville Ga, brother Mr. Douglas (Linda) Worsham of Scottville, N.C. Grandchildren Lindsay (Ben) Dickerson of Commerce Ga, Logan Worsham of Donalsonville Ga, and Ryan Renfroe of Thomaston Ga, brother in law Mr. James Owens of Charlotte N.C, sister in law Mrs. Emma Deavours of Duluth Ga, sister in law and brother in law Mrs. Joan (Ed) Cordell of Americus Ga, and a sister in law and brother in law Mrs. Joy (Dewey) Touchton of Winter Haven Fl, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 16, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. from Thomaston First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Thomaston First United Methodist  Church on Saturday July 16, 2016 from 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 132 Cherokee Rd. Thomaston Ga. 30286.

MRS. RUBY INEZ COCHRAN

Mrs. Ruby Inez Cochran, age 86, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Cochran was born January 2, 1930, in Griffin, to the late A.B. and Ruby Jewel Williamson. She retired from Sherri Lynn Manufacturing. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Cochran. Survivors are her daughter, Minnie (Hollis) Thompson of Thomaston; brother, Harold (Jo) Williamson of Thomaston; sisters, June (James) Payton of Newnan, and Frances (Cecil) Moody of Warner Robbins; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cochran will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 15, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.
