MR. TERRY THOMAS HADAWAY

Mr. Terry Thomas Hadaway, 80, of Thomaston, died Monday, August 29, 2016 at Navicent Health, Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Funeral services for Mr. Hadaway will be held Thursday, September 1, 11:00 AM , at the Molena Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery in Thomaston. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. MRS. JOHNNIE MAE WILSON

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Wilson, age 87, of Thomaston, died Monday, August 29, 2016, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wilson was born on October 26, 1928 in Butler Ga, to the late Sam and Gladys Thompson. She was formerly employed with Upson Regional Medical Center where she worked in admissions for many years. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church where she was in the Bobby Phagan Sunday School class and the president of the WMU Circle II. She was preceded in death by her daughter Connie Philpott, brother Benjamin F. "Bubba' Thompson, sister Mary Bell.

Survivors include her husband Mr. Murle Wilson of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Mark (Wanda) Wilson of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Margie Bethune of Dacula Ga, 5 Grandchildren. 7 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Wednesday August 31, 2016 from 12-2 p.m.

Mr. Horace Bevel, age 69, of Yatesville, died Tuesday, August 23, at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Atlanta. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, at 1:00 PM, from the Rock Springs Church in Milner, GA. Internment will follow in The Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Timothy Smith age 46 of Thomaston Ga, died Tuesday August 23, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born on January 9, 1970 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Don and Lynn Smith. He was formerly employed with Steel Arc where he worked as a welder.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Rebecca Reed Smith of Thomaston Ga, daughters Ms. Brittany (Robert Royal) Reed of Thomaston Ga, Ms. Alyssa Reed of Thomaston Ga, grandchild Vanessa Royal.

MRS. ELEANOR MAY HARRIS

Mrs. Eleanor May Harris age 83 of Meansville Ga, died Thursday August 25, 2016 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Harris was born on May 10, 1933 in Thomaston Ga, to the late John David and Ruth Arnold. She was formerly employed with Georgia Power where she worked as a customer service representative for 25 years. Mrs. Harris was a  member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church where she served in the choir and the Methodist Women. She loved her grandchildren, and also loved going to the beach with family.  Mrs. Harris was an avid gardener and loved flowers and loved watching hummingbirds. She was a great cook. Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her husband Donald Hugh Harris.

Survivors include her sons Mr. Ronald Adams of Thomaston Ga, Mr. David (Mary Ann) Harris of Columbus Ga, brothers Mr. Jacky (Bessie) Arnold of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Billy Arnold of Fayetteville Ga, grandchildren Brandon Harris, Ashley Bowden, John W. Harris, great grandchildren Gab Bowden, Beau Bowden, Hugh Harris.

MR. DONNIE C. MORRIS

Mr. Donnie Chiptman Morris, age 74, of Thomaston, died Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin.

Mr. Morris was born on August 2, 1942 in Americus GA, to the late Floyd and Vera Morris. He retired from Thomaston Mills as a Loom Fixer, and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Morris of Thomaston; daughter, Marsha Gassett of Thomaston; son, Kevin (Rita) Morris of Rockmart; brothers, Emory (Julie) Morris of Thomaston, Arthur Morris, and Edwin Morris both of Jacksonville FL; and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Morris will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Patricia Brown Heard age 64 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday August 18, 2016 at her residence. 

Mrs. Heard was born on January 14, 1952 in San Antonio Tx, to Ione Brown and the late Felix Felton Brown.  She was formerly employed with the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute of Rehabilitation where she was the director of infection control. Mrs. Heard was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Mr. John William Heard of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Jennifer (Jason) Looney of Daphne Al, sons Mr. William Jason Heard of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Michael Galen Heard of Corpus Christi Tx, mother Mrs. Ione Brown of Woodbury Ga, brothers Mr. Thomas Paul (Brenda) Fuller of Franklin Ga, Mr. Wendell F. Brown of Woodstock Ga, Mr. Mark Terry Brown of Lagrange Ga, sisters Mrs. Janice M. MR. TIMOTHY CLARK SPIRES

Mr. Timothy Clark "Tim" Spires, 61, of Thomaston, died Monday, August 15th, 2016 at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Spires will be held on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 at 2 pm at East Thomaston Baptist Church. Rev. Joey Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Spires was born in Upson County on July 22, 1955. He was a certified water plant operator and also earned a technical school certificate in welding. He had been employed at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in the maintenance division.
Mr. Spires was an avid runner and gardener. He was a member of the East Thomaston Baptist Church.
Mr. Spires is survived by his wife, Sandra P. Spires; his mother, Elizabeth Clark Spires of Thomaston; a son, Timothy "Timmy" James (Betty) Spires of Thomaston; two step-daughters, Geana (Rusty) Ellington of Thomaston and Michele Ard (Rick) Cayado of Macon; a step-son, Dusty (Jill) Starling of Thomaston; a sister, Sabra (Dennis) Truitt of Thomaston; three grandchildren, Luke James Spires, Shayla Elizabeth Spires and Timothy Lance Spires; and a great-grandchild, Naylee Spires.

Mr. Jackie Glenn Ford age 78 of The Rock Ga, died Saturday August 13, 2016 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Ford was born on May 14, 1938 in Hogansville Ga, to the late Clarence and Ruby Irene Ford. He worked as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Ford served his country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne. He was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church, Morning Star Lodge #27 F & A.M. and the Flint River Daylight lodge.

Mr. Blount was born on March 9, 1942 in Thomaston Ga, to the late John Will Blount Sr, and Jeneva Kelly Blount.  He was formerly employed with Thomaston Mills Peerless Division where he worked as a supervisor in the spinning room. Mr. Blount was a member of Pritchett Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Brenda Phillips Blount and sister Martha Ann Blount.

Mr. Gary Cooper "Bunk" Helms age 80 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday August 11, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Helms was born on March 8, 1936 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Rufus and Mildred Dickerson Helms. He was formerly employed with Yamaha where he worked as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his sister Doris Perkins.

Mrs. Peacock was born on July 9, 1946 in Thomaston Ga, to Georgia Clay Coggins and the late Walter Lamar Coggins. She was formerly employed with Avon where she worked as district manager. Mrs. Peacock was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

MRS. DONNIE T. BRADDY

Mrs. Donnie T. Braddy, 92, of Thomaston, died Monday, August 8th, 2016.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Braddy will be held on Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 at 2:00 PM in South View Cemetery with Dr. Rex King officiating.
Mrs. Braddy was born on September 16th, 1923 in Butler, a daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Della Mae Tucker. She was employed for many years as a spinner at Thomaston Mills.
She was a member of the East Thomaston Baptist Church.
Mrs. Braddy is survived by a daughter, Angie Albritton and two sons, Wayne (Connie) Braddy and Ronnie (Reba) Braddy, all of Thomaston; two sisters, Clara McCook of Macon and Mildred Poteat of Columbus; a brother, Boyd Tucker of Butler; three grandsons and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Jackson Braddy.

MR. ALVA EDWIN ED DENHAM

Mr. Alva Edwin "Ed" Denham age 81 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday August 4, 2016 at his residence. 

Mr. Denham was born on May 26, 1935 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Hoyle and Louise Waller Denham. He was formerly employed with Flint River Technical College where he worked as an electronics instructor for 25 years. He was was a life time member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer and later attended New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Denham was a member of The East Thomaston Masonic Lodge. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Denham was preceded in death by his sister Ophelia Wright, grandchildren Caleb Wiggins, Jarred Denham.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Elaine Birdsong Denham of Thomaston Ga,, son Mr. Merrel (Sheila) Denham of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Travis Denham, Kaitlin (Brandon) Weeks , Lanie Wiggins, great grandchildren Peyton Weeks, Garrett Weeks.

Ms. Linda Faye Royal, age 69, of Thomaston, died Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Providence Health and Rehab Center.

Ms. Royal was born January 16, 1947, in Screven County GA. to the late Robert Green and Minnie Lee Royal. 

She is survived by her sisters, Yvonne Stephens, Carol (Jarrell) Roberson, and Lane Royal, all of Thomaston; sister-in-law, Lyndia Royal of Thomaston; brother, Jarrett Rusty (Jeanell) Royal of Meansville; and her beloved dog, Rusty.

Funeral services for Ms. Royal will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 5, 2016, form 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. JACKIE B BARFIELD

Mr. Jackie B. Barfield "Capt Jack", age 79, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin.


Mr. Barfield was born on July 24, 1937 in Thomaston to the late Bennett & Mary Elizabeth Barfield of Zebulon, GA.   He was preceded in his death by his brothers Joe (Rachel)Barfield of Concord, Georgia and Robert (Brenda) Barfield of Zebulon, Georgia.
 
He attended & graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute in Thomaston.  He was an outstanding forward on the mighty Rebels basketball team while he attended high school.  Shortly after high school he joined the United States Army National Guards where he served in the Mortar Platoon Sgt.  He was employed with Thomaston Mills where in retired after 40 plus years of service. 
 
Mr. Barfield was noted as being “Coach” where he coached 10 years The Winning Grasscutter Eagles on Matthews Field every Saturday.  He was loved by his young players and respected by them even today.  Of course gardening, fishing, nascar and football was his favorite things to do. Of course there was never a night the Friday Night Lights came on at Matthews Field, he and all his fellow coaches were not holding up the top railing while the Rebels took another victory.  He was a proud Rebel and Rebel supporter.   He also was a member of Kings Chapel Baptist Church of Thomaston.
 
He is survived by his wife Diane Barfield of Thomaston, son Tracy (Lisa) Barfield of Thomaston, daughter Jacklyn (Ricky) Lewis of Thomaston, grandchildren Jess (Ryan) Yopp of Thomaston, Cameron (Becca Bostwick) Barfield of Thomaston, John Dallas Barfield of Athens, GA. and a great granddaughter Caroline Lainely Yopp of Thomaston.   He is also survived by five step children, Patricia (Jerry) Royal of Thomaston, David (Lynn) Cummings of Thomaston, Brenda (Lee) Bunn of Thomaston, Freddie Kilgo of Thomaston and Barbara Langford of Barnesville and grandchildren Mandy Green, Jason Shoemake, Steven Cummings, Maddie Cummings, Chrystal Hammock, Jonathon Dickson, Heather Kilgo and 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Hazel (Robert) Hammock of Thomaston and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Barfield will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.
 
The family would like to thank all who have supported them during a very hard time in their life and the Amazing Staff at Eternal Hope Hospice, where he was treated, cared for and loved by all who walked into his room.

MR. ANTOINE MARQUEZ ATWATER, AGE 31 OF 736 STEVENS STREET IN THOMASTON PASSED AWAY THURSDAY, JULY 28TH.

MRS. JOAN CAROL HOWE

Mrs. Joan Carol Howe, age 78, of Thomaston, died Monday, August 1, 2016, at Providence Health and Rehab Center. 

Mrs. Howe was born February 17, 1938, in La Grande OR, to the late Franklin E. and Marie Blackman Howe. She was an Inspector for a lawn mower factory, and member of the Thomaston Church of God.

Survivors are her daughters, Penny (Kenneth) Sorrells and Debora (Donnie) Womble, both of Thomaston; sister, Betty Vezanni of Winder; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mrs. Howe will be announced later by Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. RICKY JOE MCKINLEY

Mr. Rickey Joe McKinley age 57 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday July 30, 2016 at Eternal Hope Hospice.

Mr. McKinley was born on September 15, 1958 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Oscar and Bessie Boyt McKinley. He worked as a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include his companion Lynn Tanksley of Thomaston Ga, son Ben (Jennifer) McKinley of Thomaston Ga, brother Donnie McKinley of Milner Ga, sisters Linda Hoyal of Molena Ga, Vicky Griffin of Thomaston Ga, Tammy McKinley of Thomaston Ga, Mary Watson of Thomaston Ga, 4 Grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday August 1, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Southview Cemetery.
