MRS. FRANCES BLOUNT PHILPOTT

Mrs. Frances Blount Philpott, age 87, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Providence Nursing Center. 
Mrs. Philpott was born, February 9, 1929, in Washington County GA, to the late Roger Lawson and Hattie Frances Blount SR. She was a department supervisor in the Thomaston Mills Lab and member of East Thomaston Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Durwood Emmett Philpott; son, Michael Ray Philpott; and brother, Troy E. Blount. Survivors are, her sons, Mark Philpott of Thomaston, and Mitchell Philpott of Newnan; brothers, Roger L. Blount JR. of Macon, John T. Blount of Thomaston, Danny Blount of Thomaston, and Sammy (Voncille) Blount of Thomaston; sisters, Betty Hilton of Thomaston, Dorothy (Alfred) Shepard of Warner Robbins, Catherine Matthews of Thomaston, Mary Nunley of Warner Robbins, and Brenda (L.R.) Brock of Thomaston; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Philpott will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. MITTIE IRENE THOMAS

Mrs. Mittie Irene Thomas, age 95, of Thomaston, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at her residence.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Crisp County, to the late Alvin L. and Irene B. Dorminey. She worked at the Woodbury Pepper Plant and member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George T. Thomas SR. Survivors are her daughter, Audrey (Gordon) Welch of Thomaston; sons, George (Elizabeth) Thomas JR of Thomaston, James David (Mary) Thomas of Santa Fe TN, and Donald Eugene (Doris) Thomas of Thomaston; brother, Ronald (Geraldine) Dorminey of Dawsonville; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. WILLIE JOHN ANDERSON

Mr. Willie John Anderson, age 56, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Anderson, was born April 8, 1960, in Upson County, to the late William Arnold and Vera Mae Anderson. He worked at Keadle Lumber for more than 20 years, and attended Emory's Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Anderson; daughter, Naomie Anderson; son, David (Lindsey) Anderson; sister, Mary (Malcom) Wilson; grandchildren, Ty-Vera Anderson, Daniel Anderson, and William Stubbs, all of Thomaston. He is preceded in death by sisters, Mar-Linda Wilson, and Jackie White.

Graveside services for Mr. Anderson will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016, at 2:00 PM, at Emory's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the ALS Association, 5881 Glenn Ridge Dr. #200, Atlanta GA 30328.

MRS. CATHERINE P. BRISCOE

Mrs. Catherine P. Briscoe, age 81, of Eatonton, formerly of Thomaston, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at her residence in Eatonton.

Mrs. Briscoe was born October 9, 1934, in Anniston AL to the late Mary Parker. She was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Randolph Briscoe. Survivors are her daughter, Mary Jeannie (Terry) Moon of Eatonton; son, Carl (Sara) Briscoe of Ft. Valley; 4, grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mrs. Briscoe will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. MARGIE GILBERT DANIEL

Mrs. Margie Gilbert Daniel, 89, of Thomaston, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at Brightmoor Hospice.
Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel will be held on Monday, June 20th, 2016 at 3 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. Dr. Glenn Gilstrap and Rev. Dan Gilbert will officiate and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Daniel will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church on Monday from 1 pm until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Daniel, daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Belle Ruffin Gilbert, was a native of Thomaston. She graduated from R. E. Lee Institute in 1944. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston for 53 years. 
Mrs. Daniel served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was employed as the bookkeeper for Charles Kass Company for 36 years prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her husband, James Corbette "J. C." Daniel, Jr., and two brothers, Alton Gilbert of Thomaston and Barnie Gilbert of Byron.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan (Donald) McFarlin of Thomaston and Susan (Michael) Rodrigues of Gainesville; four grandchildren, Marcie (Patrick) Rogers of Peachtree City, Jon (Jana) McFarlin of Zebulon, Andrew Rodrigues of Raleigh, NC, and Joseph Rodrigues of Gainesville; two great granddaughters, Lyla Jo Lewis and Mollie Cate Rogers; two sisters, Mary Ann Smith of Hiram and Maudene Allen of Thomaston; two brothers, George (Bobbie) Gilbert of San Marcos, TX, and Dan (Eunelle) Gilbert of Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Gilbert of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 403 Birdsong St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

MR. EMORY JARRELL PITTS JR.

Mr. Emory Jarrell "Poppy" Pitts Jr. age 55 of Thomaston Ga, died Wednesday June 15, 2016 at his residence. 

Mr. Pitts was born on January 14, 1961 in Thomaston Ga, to Emory Jarrell Pitts Sr, and Omie Partain Pitts. He was co-owner of the family business Hometown Printers. Mr. Pitts was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Kelli Pitts of Thomaston Ga, daughters Mrs. Carmen (Darius) Mack of Atlanta Ga, Mrs. Brooke (Brandon) Chaffin of Thomaston Ga, sons Mr. Andrew Pitts of Germany, Mr. Benjamin Pitts of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Christopher Pitts of Atlanta Ga, Mr. Dylan Pitts of Athens Ga, father Mr. Emory Pitts of Thomaston Ga, mother Mrs. Omie Partain Pitts of Thomaston Ga, sisters Ms. Michele Pitts of Thomaston Ga, Ms. Daphane Pitts of Ca. 3 Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday June 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Sunday June 19, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. It was Mr. Pitts's wishes to be cremated after the service.

MRS. JOSEPHINE PARKER

Mrs. Josephine Parker, age 92, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

Mrs. Parker was born July 7, 1923, in Hartwell GA, to the late John Howard and Matilda Cleora Carlton. She was a clerk for Texaco Oil in Atlanta and member of the Thomaston First Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Parker; and sister, Mildred Albritton. Survivors are her daughter, Teresa Parker of Dawsonville GA; and son, Carlton Parker of Thomaston.

Memorial services for Mrs. Parker will be held by the family at a later date.

Mr. Terry Ledbetter, age 55, of Thomaston died Friday, June 10, 2016 at his residence.

Mr Ledbetter was born My 2, 1961, in Fulton County, to the late Charles Emmett and Roslyn Ledbetter. He was a Roofer and Construction worker.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie Fields; sons, James Morton of Thomaston and Jonathan Ledbetter ; brothers, Jerry Ledbetter of Meansville and Charles Ledbetter of Thomaston.

Graveside services for Mr. Ledbetter will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. GERALDINE "JERI" ALLEN

Mrs. Geraldine "Jeri" Allen, age 79, of Thomaston GA, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Allen was born August 30, 1936, in Dodge County to the late George Oscar and Clyde Dowdy Kinchen. She was the resident manager of the Christian Women Center of Sunnyside GA and member of Sylvia Hills Church.


She is survived by her daughters, Kerri (Terry) Corley, Donna Broazzo, and Lisa Huguley; son, David (Laura) Allen, all of Thomaston; sister, Luellen (Noel) Sasnett of AL; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 2:00 PM, at Sylvia Hills Church in Thomaston, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Coggins Funeral Home.

LANDON TYLER HOYAL

Landon Tyler Hoyal, age 23, of Thomaston GA, died Sunday, June 5, 2016.

Mr. Hoyal, was born September 19, 1992, in Thomaston to Robin Hoyal. He was a Member of the U.S. Army 18th Airborne Corp, an Eagle Scout in Scout Troop 25, and member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Shane and Robin Phillips; sister, Kelsey Phillips; grandparents, Elred and Terri Hoyal, and Jerone and Gloria Phillips; great-grandparents, Carlos and Martha Bell; aunts and uncles, Heather Hoyal, and Kim (Al) Phillips; and cousins, Trey Dunnahoo, and Ally Phillips. 

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Social Hall of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. JUDY HANDLEY NIXON

Ms. Judy Handley Nixon age 65 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday June 3, 2016 at her residence. 

Ms. Nixon was born on September 10, 1950 in Hawkinsville Ga, to the late Arthur and Lura Tomberlin Handley. She was formerly employed with the Georgia Department of Corrections where she worked for 35 years. Ms. Nixon was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church where she played the piano for 35 years, and is currently a member of Jeff Davis Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters Amanda (Derrick) Keeter of Thomaston Ga, Kelli Nixon of Thomaston Ga, son Chris Handley of Barnesville Ga, grandchild Jaycee Avery of Thomaston Ga. Many cousins also survive to cherish her memories.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday June 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jewell Dorsey Beeland age 101 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday June 4, 2016 at Providence Healthcare. 

Mrs. Beeland was born on January 9, 1915 in Dexter Ga, to the late John Dorsey. She was formerly employed with Thomaston Mills where she worked as a spinner for many years. Mrs. Beeland was a member of Hightower Silvertown Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Elton Hall Beeland.

Survivors include her son Mr. William (Shirley) Beeland of Thomaston Ga, sisters Mrs. Paulette Freeland of Auburn Al, 2 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday June 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Monday June 6, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
