MRS. EDNA RUTH GILBERT FULLER BISHOP

Mrs. Edna Ruth Gilbert Fuller Bishop, age 84, of Thomaston, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at her residence. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 30, at 4:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral with Rev. Keith Adams and Rev. Milton Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 3:00 until 4:00 at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. MRS. BARBARA ANN EASON SMITH MOORE

Mrs. Barbara Ann Eason Smith Moore age 79 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday April 28, 2016 surrounded by her angels at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. 

Mrs. Moore was born on January 10, 1937 in Thomaston Ga. She worked as the manager at West Valley Apartments for many years. Mrs. Moore was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Moore, son Mitchell Keith Eason, daughters Tammy Ard, Bonnie Sue Eason, 3 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Debra (Ronny) Ard of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Alan (Angel) Eason of Niceville Fl, sister Mrs. Doris Teal of Christian City Ga, 7 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Monday May 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Louise Sheppard "Lucy" Lawrence, age 80, of Thomaston, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Riverside Health and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Lawrence was born on October 24, 1935 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Robert and Christine Sheppard. She was employed with Thomaston Mills where she worked in the sewing room for over 30 years until her retirement.  Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Thurston Community Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Jerry Norman Lawrence Sr.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Pamela (Ricky) Peek of Thomaston Ga, son Mr.  Norman (Deirdre) Lawrence of Meansville Ga, grandchildren Kristin Odom, Whit Lawrence, Nichole Lawrence, Michael Cochran, great grandchild Olivia Odom.

Mr. Perry was born on April 1, 1928 in Pedro Fl, to the late Jarvis and Ruby Wilbur Perry. He worked for B.F. Goodrich Mills for many years. Mr. Perry served his country in the U.S. Navy.

MRS. SUE STRICKLAND BARFIELD

Mrs. Sue Strickland Barfield, age 72, of Thomaston GA, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Barfield was born December 9, 1943, to the late William Ed and Montez Strickland. She was a seamstress for Sherri Lynn Textiles in Zebulon GA, and member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Tommy Barfield of Thomaston; daughter, Toiee (Russell) Blount of Thomaston; sons, James Carter of Rancho Viejo TX and Rex Carter of Hiram GA; sister, Sandra (Leon) Brown of Alamo GA; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Jennifer Ried.

MR. JOEL WAYNE MABREY

Mr. Joel Wayne Mabrey, age 71, of Meansville, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Barnesville, at his daughters residence.

Mr. Mabrey was born October 13, 1944 in Upson County to the late Euell and Lois Mabrey. He was a Mechanic for Zebulon Auto Service, and member of Vega Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Mabrey of Meansville; daughter, Teri (Tim) Boyt of Thomaston and Lisa (Tim) Childress of Barnesville; sisters, Jeanette Hemby of The Rock and Ann Cox of Statesville NC; brother, James Mabrey of Meansville;  grandchildren, Crystal Wheeler, Brad Boyt, Rodney McDaniel, Clint Boyt, Jacob McDaniel, Cory Standard, and Ashley Mauldin; and 14 great-grandchildren.

MR. CHARLES THOMAS GORDY

Mr. Charles Thomas Gordy age 87 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday April 21, 2016 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gordy was born on August 20, 1928 in Hapeville Ga, to the late Oscar Thomas and Della Bishop Gordy. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Gordy proudly served his community as Mayor and also as Tax Commissioner for many years. He was a member of Thomaston First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Johnnie Gordy of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Renee Moot of Dalton Ga, sister Mrs. Joanne (Robert) Baskin of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Mrs. Lorie (Sean) Buck , Mr. Ryan (Meredith) Moot, great grandchild Caroline Buck.

Mrs. Bethune was born in Thomaston, June 5, 1961 to the late Lewis and Grace Ogletree. She was a house wife and disabled Agriculture Worker, and member of Mud Bridge Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, James Bethune of Thomaston; daughters, Amanda (Dustin) Anthony of Meansville, and Patricia Bethune of Thomaston; son, Brad McChargue of Thomaston; brothers, Ronnie (Jan) Ogletree, Bobby Ogletree, Charles Ogletree, and Steven (Tina) Ogletree all of Thomaston; sister, Brenda (Richard) McKinney of Fortson GA. She is preceded in death by her sister, Debra Spillers.

Mr. Charlie "Walter" Griffin Jr. age 44 of Meansville Ga, died Tuesday April 12, 2016 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Griffin was born June 5, 1971 in Upson County to Audrey Wisham and the late Charlie Walter Griffin Sr. He was Co-Owner of Canady Pools and Signs, member of Mountain View Baptist Church, and a Red Cross Volunteer.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Griffin; daughter, Kaylee Griffin; mother, Audrey Wisham all of Meansville; brothers, Matthew (Candi) Sanders of College Station TX, Craig (Andrea) Sanders of West Point GA, and Clint (Sabrina) Sanders of Atlanta GA. He is preceded in death by his step-dad, Wayne Wisham.

Mrs. Mendenhall was born on October 27, 1942 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Loie Moss and Martha Moulton Fenley. She was formerly employed with Mcc Panasonic where she worked in the packing department. Mrs. Mendenhall was a member of Full Gospel Outreach Church.

MR. LJUBIE TERRELL THOMAS

Mr. Ljubie Terrell Thomas, age 68, of Thomaston, died Thursday evening, April 7, 2016, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be held Monday, April 11, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Dr. Rex King will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning from 10 until 11 AM.
Mr. Thomas was born March 1, 1948, in Alma, GA. He grew up in Waycross and moved to Thomaston in 1978. He was employed as a tract manager for Ranier Forest Products. Mr. Thomas was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in Viet Nam, He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. 
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Linda Thomas of Thomaston; a daughter, Niki Adams of Thomaston; his mother, Fonida H. Thomas, of Thomaston; a sister, Wanda Moore of Ellaville, GA; two granddaughters: Erica (Andrew) Van Houten and Kensie Adams, both of Thomaston; and two great grandchildren: Kaden and Addelyn VanHouten, of Thomaston.

r. William Kary "Sonny" Barger, age 77, of Thomaston died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at  Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Barger was born on January 24, 1939 in Aragon Ga, to the late Kary and Winnie Barger. He was formerly employed with Boring and Smith where he worked as a Purchasing Agent for many years. Mr. Barger was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Claudette Barger of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. David (Holly) Barger of McDonough Ga, brother Mr. Gerald (Jo Ann) Barger of Conyers Ga, sister Mrs. Elizabeth (Jack) Wheeler of Jacksonville Fl, 2 grandchildren.

Mrs. Doris Faye Wainwright, age 77, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale GA.

Mrs. Wainwright was born November 12, 1938 in Thomaston to the late James Marion and Ruby Velma Helms. She was a weaver for Thomaston Mills and member of First Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Wainwright; daughter, Teresa (Roy) Parks; brother, Larry (Cindy) Helms; sister, Annette (Lamont) Blount; grandchildren, Nathan Suddeth, Ashli (Joel) Trice, Jesse Parks; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Trice, and Camden Trice, all of Thomaston.

FORMER UPSON CO. COMMISSIONER HARRIS BRANTLEY DIED SUNDAY

Mr. James Harris Brantley, Sr., age 97, of Thomaston, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Riverside Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Barber and Rev. Joey Smith officiating. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Brantley will receive friends Tuesday evening, April 5, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
Mr. Brantley was born February 11, 1919, in Kite, Ga. He served in the U. S. Navy amphibious forces in the Pacific during World War II, including the Philippines and Okinawa. Mr. Brantley was a Purple Heart recipient. He moved to Upson County in the late 1930's where he met and married his wife, Mildred Lindsey Brantley, who preceded him in death. Mr. Brantley was a farmer, and he won the Southeastern and Tri-State awards for growing the best hay. He sold his hay on the "honor system" with a box at his barn for the buyer to leave payment. He was a County Commissioner for sixteen years and was a member of the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce who was honored with that organization's "Lifetime Achievement Award". Mr. Brantley also served on the City of Thomaston's Zoning and Appeals Board. He was active in the Upson County and GA Farm Bureau Chapters and was a charter member of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston where he was active in the Builder's Sunday School Class.
Mr. Brantley is survived by two daughters: Joy B. Day of Jonesboro and Cathy (Michael) Greenman of Thomaston; two sons: James H. Brantley, Jr. of Ellaville and David Brantley of Thomaston; three grandchildren: Brantley E. Day of Canton, Jim Brantley of Ellaville, and Ellen Foy of Thomaston; and six great grandchildren: James H. Brantley, IV and Dennis M. Brantley of Ellaville; Colton Day and Kincayd Day of Canton; and Mason and Bo Foy of Thomaston.

Mr. William Kendrick, age 77, of Thomaston, died Friday April 1, 2016 at the West Georgia Health Center in Lagrange.

Mr. Kendrick was born August 25, 1938, to the late Joseph and Bertha Kendrick. He was a Loom Fixer for Thomaston Mills, and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy LaRosa Kendrick. Survivors are his daughters, Sherry VonLanthen of Thomaston, and Charmin (Greg) Talley of Franklin GA; sons, William A. Kendrick of Thomaston, Dwayne Kendrick of Thomaston, Jacob Kendrick of Riverdale, and Jeffery (Mary) Kendrick of Meansville; sisters, Frances Collins of Gray, and Mildred Smith of Brazelton; brothers, George Daniel of Thomaston, John Kendrick of Yatesville, and Charlie Kendrick of Vacaville CA; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Kendrick will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. ANN SMITH GARNER

Mrs. Ann Smith Garner, 72, of Thomaston, died Friday, April 1, 2016, at Spalding Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 5, at 4:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

MRS. BETTY MARTIN LEWIS

Mrs. Betty Martin Lewis, age 85, of Thomaston, died Friday April 1, 2016 at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Floyd County GA. to the late John Franklin and Emma Rebecca Martin. She retired from B.F.Goodrich's Martha Mills as a Lab Tech, and was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lewis; sisters, Vivian Reece, Doris Langston, Barbara Hendrix; and brother, Fred Martin. Survivors are her daughter, Pam (Abe) Biswas of Katy TX; sister, Edna Watkins of Rome GA; and grandchildren, Rebekah (Josh) Turner ,and Ronjon Biswas.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lewis will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.
