Rev. Mr. Mitchell Keith Eason

Rev. Mr. Mitchell Keith Eason, 54, of 726 Sherry Street, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Eason was born on March 27 1961 in Upson County to Barbara Eason Moore and the late William (Slick) Eason. He was the Assistant Manager at Thomaston Piggly Wiggly.

Mr. Eason was preceded in death by his father Mr. William (Slick) Eason and a sister Mrs. Tammy Gail Ard.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Barbara E. Moore of Thomaston; brother, Mr. Alan (Angel) Eason of Niceville, FL; brother in Law, Mr. Ricky Ard of Thomaston; sister, Mrs. Debra (Ronny) Ard of Thomaston.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home with burial to follow in Valley Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 PM.

Mr. John Harris Jr. Age 67 of 113 Longview Loop Thomaston died on Wednesday July 22,2015. The family can be contacted at the residence. Funeral service will be held Monday July 27,2015 1pm at the St. Mary AME Church. Internment will follow in the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Rapheal Allen will officiate. Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Howell Cates

Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Howell Cates, age 64 (August 22, 1950 - July 19, 2015), of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at his home. 

Before relocating to Florida, Ronnie was a long time resident of Charleston, South Carolina during his military career. Ronnie served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1995. He was currently working for the Army Corp of Engineers. Ronnie loved to go canoeing, exploring, and diving in the cave springs of north Florida and spending time with his family. Originally Ronnie was from Forest Park and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1969. He continued his education and earned a Masters Degree from Troy State University.

He was predeceased by his mother, Mary A. Cates, his father, James H. Cates, and a brother, David Bruce Cates.

He is survived by two brothers: Gregory Cates, Griffin, and James Cates, McDonough; one sister: Linda Guest, Meansville; nieces and nephews: Layla, Keith, Ashley, Alayna, Brannen and Ethan; great nephew and great niece: Aedan and Tenley.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2015, in the Community Bible Church located at 2001 Jodeco Road, Stockbridge, with Pastor Tony Jones officiating.


Interment will be held at a later date in Fincher Memorial Cemetery, Meansville. Memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Ms Debra Malone age 62 of 261 Triune Avenue died on Friday July 17,2015 at her residence.

Mr Billy Mack Phillips

Mr. Billy Mack Phillips, Sr., 83, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 at Golden Living Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at 11:00 a. m., at the First Baptist Church of Thomaston with the Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Phillips will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Friday from 5 until 7 pm.

Mr. Phillips was born in Glennville on April 1, 1932, a son of the late Joseph McCall Phillips and Lavonia Brannon Phillips. He was a graduate of Ga. Tech and earned degrees in Textile Engineering and Industrial Management. He was retired from B. F. Goodrich where he had been a production scheduler.
Mr. Phillips was also a veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard. At his retirement after 31 years of service he held the rank of Brigadier General.

Mr. Phillips was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thomaston and was a former member of the Glennville First United Methodist Church and the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Thomaston Lions Club.

Mr. Phillips had been a Boy Scout Master and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for his service to that organization. He had also served as a youth sports coach for several different sports.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia N. Phillips; two sons, David (Judy) Phillips of Fletcher, NC and Charles (Cheryl) Phillips of Brooks; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Phillips; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Mack Phillips, Jr.

Mr. Joe Harwell Hammock, age 74, of Thomaston died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

Mr. Hammock was born on March 29, 1941 in Taylor County Ga, to the late Gene and Lillian Hammock. He was formerly employed with Georgia Tech where he worked as an Electronic Instructor for 8 years and later worked for B.F. Goodrich until his retirement. Mr. Hammock was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and also the Thomaston Masonic Lodge #27 F&AM. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Betty F. Hammock of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Lloyd (Wanda) Hammock of Barnesville Ga, Mr. Gary Hammock of Az.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Friday July 24, 2015 from 5-7 p.m.

Mr. Donald B. Lloyd, age 86, of Thomaston, died on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Providence Health and Rehab Center.

Mr. Lloyd was born on June 4, 1929 in Rome Ga, to the late Charles and Nell Boyd Lloyd. He was a minister.

Survivors include his daughter Vicki (Mike) Raines of Thomaston Ga, son Mickey (Lanita) Lloyd of Villa Rica Ga, 1 brother, 4 sisters, 6 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren

Ms. Eloise Anthony age 73 of Barnesville Ga, died Sunday July 19, 2015 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin Ga.

Ms. Anthony was born on December 11, 1941 in Zebulon Ga, to the late Henry and Susan Ella Anthony. She was formerly employed with Henry County Schools where she worked as a cafeteria attendant.

Survivors include her daughters Sheila Kern of Barnesville Ga, Sharon (Arnie) Casey of Molena Ga, son Randall (Vickie) Coogler of Yatesville Ga, brothers Edgar (Janice) Anthony of Warm Springs Ga, Gene (Juanita) Anthony of Watkinsville Ga, Gary (Laverne) Anthony of Roberta Ga, sister in love Doris Anthony of Zebulon Ga. 8 Grandchildren. 1 Great Grandchild.

MRS. WILMA PITTS HOOPER

Mrs. Wilma Pitts Hooper, 90, Thomaston, Ga. died Thursday, July 16, 2015.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18th at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Herb Flanders will officiate and burial will follow in South View Cemetery.
Mrs. Hooper worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 29 years and retired to her hometown of Thomaston. She was graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute and as a proud member of The Greatest Generation became one of the early employees at Robins Air Force Base in 1942. She was a Red Cross volunteer in the DeKalb General Hospital emergency room and in later years worked at Upson Regional Hospital.
She is survived by her sons Robert L. Hooper and Raymond N. Hooper as well as her sisters Betty Ann Fordham and Virginia Lynch.

Mr. Jimmy Eugene Dowdy, age 78, of Thomaston, died Thursday July 9, 2015 at his residence on Indian Trail.

Mr. Dowdy was born on May 21, 1937 in Fulton County Ga, to the late Benjamin and Katherine Dowdy. He was employed with the Thomaston Police Department for 25 years until his retirement. Mr. Dowdy was a member of Zion's Chapel Methodist Church and the Police Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Grace Dowdy of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Kay (Calvin) Hill of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Adam (Vivian Stinchcomb) Dowdy of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Tempy Hoyle of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Daniel E. Dowdy, Gregg Dowdy, Kimberly Paige Williams, Addison Dowdy.

Mrs. Parks was born on October 29, 1943 in Durham N.C., to the late Fred and Nellie Self Grant. She was formerly employed with the William Carter Company where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Mrs. Parks was a member of Hebron Congregational Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Eugene Parks

Mrs. Stephens was born on January 16, 1942 in Thomaston GA, to the late Henry Grady and Sara Middlebrooks. She was formerly employed with Big C. Drugs where she worked as a clerk for 27 years. Mrs. Stephens was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Jimmie E. Stephens of Thomaston; son, Mr. Kirk (Tina Cleveland) Stephens of Thomaston; sisters, Mrs. Peggy Cleveland of Thomaston, Mrs. Betty Jean (Milwood) Adams of Thomaston; and grandchild, Brittany Stephens.

Mrs. Lowry was born on February 12, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Jim Will and Ester McRae Boyt. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Lowry was a member of Kings Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. H.V. Lowry.

Mrs. House was born June 17, 2015 in Gainesville GA to the late Austin and Georgia Vandiver. She was a Social Worker with DFAC and retired with over 25 years of service. She was member of Thomaston 1st Presbyterian Church and its Silver Circle.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Henry Grady House. Survivors include her daughter, Vangie (Joseph H.) Hilsman of Tucker; granddaughter, Jenny (Don) Stebbins of Suwannee; grandson, Ray McKenzie of Tucker; and great-grandson, Blake Henry Stebbins.

Funeral services for Mrs. House will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.
